Sakura no Shiori

"Sakura no Shiori" (桜の栞; Cherry Blossom Bookmark) is the 15th major single (17th overall) released by AKB48. It was released in three versions: a type A and B that came with a DVD, and a theater version. All AKB48 members and two SKE48 were filmed in the "Sakura no Shiori" PV wearing Hakama costumes with several Tokyo districts used as background. The PV is directed by Iwai Shunji, famous Japanese film director. This single sold 317,828 copies in its first week. It became the highest-selling first week for a female artist since Utada Hikaru's "COLORS" in 2003.

Translation: "Until it lasts···" / "Forever···"

  • 2nd consecutive single to debut at #1 in the Weekly Oricon rankings.
  • This was the first single released from any female artist to sell over 300,000 copies in its first week since Utada Hikaru's "COLORS" 7 years ago.
  • For female groups, it was the best-selling first week single since Morning Musume.'s "The☆Peace!", released in 2000.
  • Sakura no Shiroi outsold RIVER in just 2 days, making it AKB48's best-selling single so far.
  • It was the 2nd best-selling single for the Month of February, 2010.
  • First day sales reported by Oricon were of a total 229,528 copies sold, making Sakura no Shiroi the 3rd best-selling first day single since Oricon reports daily sales numbers. at the time of release, the current single holding the best first day sales (Arashi's Troublemaker) hasn't been released yet, meaning Sakura no Shiori actually had the 2nd best numbers for about a month until the release of Troublemaker.
  • Following AKB48's previous single, this is the group's 2nd single to reach 1# in the Oricon Weekly charts.
  • Sakura no Shiori placed as 12# in the Oricon Yearly Single Ranking for 2010.
  • In the MV you can see  posters promoting RIVER.

Trivia

  • This was the first single to be released just one theater and one regular edition. It included a new regular regular edition for a total of three versions.
  • Majisuka Rock'n'Roll's music video used the same footage as the opening clip of the AKB48 drama Majisuka Gakuen.
  • Both Enkyori Poster and Choose me! included a multi-angle feature of the last scene of the PV, showing a close-up version of each Team YJ or Team PB member.
  • Kashiwagi Yuki, the captain of Team B at the time, was featured in all 3 tracks and music clips of the Type-A edition.
